This is the more complex wine from our winery and also the most elegant, from our vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from our estate of Cal Costas next to the winery, of an age of about 10 years and 25 years respectively.

Strains that try to work in a way that produces the minimum possible. Placed in a plain touched by the wind, and with a rather poor soil, makes the black grapes are small and with a high concentration of polyphenols. This linked with the height of the farm, make us obtain a strong red wine, uncommon in the Penedès.

Harvested by machine at dawn, arrives fresh early in the morning, although dark in the cellar. Skidding and direct deposit to the self-emptying tank.

Pre-fermentative maceration of 1 day and quite cold, with remounts to extract the maximum of fruit aromas. Maceration – fermentation of about 12-15 days according to the vintage, to extract all the qualities of the skin.

Bleeding and minimum pressing of the skins, according to tasting. Stainless rest where will do the malolactic fermentation. Once the malolactic is finished, we put it in French oak and American oak barrels, in equal parts, of 225 from 1º-2º-3º year, where it will be between 9 and 12 months, according to tasting and vintage. Subsequent aging in the bottle for at least 6 months.

Tasting note

In view: Medium bodied red wine with shades of ripe cherry, denoting a wine with a good life in the bottle.

On the nose: Light touch of wood and vanilla due to the long aging in barrels, made up with the aromas of very ripe red fruit, with some shades of understory, balsamic and very fresh herbs.

On the palate: its rounded tannins and the excellent combination of fruit and barrel wood stand out.

Pairing: With grilled lamb ribs, with xató, all kinds of sausages, cured sheep cheeses, picadillo de la Cerdanya or game meat.
Grape varieties : 50% Syrah 50% Cabernet Sauvignon
Alcohol: +/- 14,0%
Ageing: 12 months in French and American oak barrels, with a minimum of 6 months of barrel aging.

Additional information

The beginnings of the history of the Miquel Jané Winery, go back to the end of the 19th century, date that is the beginning of the winery’s activity. In those days, they produced wine in bulk and it was distributed mainly in Cuba, thanks to the fact that the family owned a company of frigates that crossed the ocean. Throughout family generations, wine estates have been acquired, including the Cal Costas estate and the La Baltana Vella estate, from which all Miquel Jané wines are currently made.
In 2002, Josep Miquel Jané transformed the bulk wine business into the sale of bottled wine under his own brand: MIQUEL JANÉ. Currently the fourth generation of the family continues to lead the business, working a total of 57ha where they harvest grapes of the highest quality. In addition, care for the environment has made the way of making wine change so that today the farm is totally organic.
We are in an excellent area of ​​the Penedès, in Font-Rubí, the so-called Penedès balcony. We are in the very high Penedès, 650m above sea level, giving our wines a unique character, a more continental and drier climate, making us have slow and optimal ripening, and wines with outstanding acidity. The soils of our farms are clay-calcareous, and quite deep.

We are a registered and certified operator in accordance with European legislation, as established in article 29, paragraph 1, of Regulation (EC) No 834/2007
Dry cultivation
Because we believe in minimal intervention, we grow without irrigation. It is also in line with the rules and regulations of the DO Penedès.
Low sulfite count
Almost all wines are less than or close to 75 ppm.
